In December the town becomes a Christmas village, and in July the medieval market takes it over completely.

Yes, the walls are free to walk and the loop takes about half an hour, but they are genuinely unguarded: no railing on the outer side, uneven medieval stone and drops of several metres. They are no place for heels, long trailing dresses or small children. Early morning is both the safest and the emptiest. The castle itself is now a hotel, so its interior is for guests.
