The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — choose complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid colors and muted tones (navy, cream, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Portugal's warm-toned architecture and lush green landscapes. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or neon colors that can distract from you as a couple. Comfortable shoes are essential, especially in Lisbon and Porto where cobblestone streets and hillside viewpoints are common. Bring a second outfit if you'd like variety — many couples change halfway through longer sessions. Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — provides the most flattering, warm, romantic light and is universally recommended by professional photographers. In Portugal, sunset times range from around 5:30pm in winter to 9:00pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions in Lisbon and Porto are especially popular because the westward-facing viewpoints catch the light over the river and rooftops beautifully. Sunrise shoots are quieter and give you famous landmarks nearly to yourselves, which is ideal for Sintra or heavily touristed areas. Photoshoots in Tomar start from €310, with most one- to two-hour packages between €310 and €450 depending on duration, the number of edited photos and the locations covered. Tomar sits roughly ninety minutes from both Lisbon and Coimbra, so a travelling photographer may add a travel fee. Entry tickets to the Convento de Cristo are separate and paid on site.

Inland Ribatejo gets hot in July and August, easily into the mid-thirties, so shoot early or in the last hours of light. The convent cloisters hold deep shade all day, which is useful. Spring is green and mild, and autumn light on the yellow stone is the best of the year. Every four years the Festa dos Tabuleiros fills the streets in July.
