The bay faces south and is sheltered, so the water stays calm and the light is even for most of the day. Cabo Espichel is the opposite: exposed, windy and spectacular into the sunset. The path down is steep, loose underfoot and unmarked in places, taking twenty to thirty minutes each way — fine in trainers, not in a dress and sandals. Many couples take a boat taxi from the harbour instead, which runs in summer and lands you straight on the sand. Either way, go early: the cove is small and loses the sun in the afternoon.

Full-day packages of up to 16 hours are available for extended celebrations that start with morning preparations and continue through a late-night party or after-party.
