What moves the price in Porto

Length. Porto is steep, and its best frames sit on two banks of the Douro. One hour covers one bank properly: the Ribeira and the lower deck of the bridge, or the Gaia side looking back at the city. Ninety minutes lets you cross and do both. Two hours adds Foz, where the river meets the Atlantic, a short drive or a ride on the old number 1 tram along the water.

Edited photos. A typical hour in Porto comes with around 40 photos, 90 minutes with 47, two hours with about 60 and a half day with about 115. Full days are mostly wedding days, and the typical one delivers around 800 photos.

Occasion. Couples, families and solo portraits are booked by the hour. Weddings and elopements are quoted by the half day or the day: a half day starts at €690, a full day at €1,150, and the typical full day costs €2,070.

What the price includes

• Edited, high-resolution photos in a private online gallery, downloadable one at a time or as one ZIP. The package tells you how many before you book.
• Payment held until delivery. The photographer is paid only once the photos are delivered and you have had time to look at them.
• Cancellation. Seven days or more before the shoot: full refund. Three to seven days: half. Under three days: none. One change of date is free up to 48 hours before, and a change for bad weather is always free.
• Extra photos. If the photographer shoots more than the package promises, the extra frames wait in the same gallery. You can buy any of them one by one at the price the photographer sets, or leave them.

Where Porto shoots happen

• The Ribeira from the Dom Luís I bridge. Walk the lower deck and the whole waterfront opens up: stacked facades, the quay, the rabelo boats moored on the Gaia side. The houses face south across the river, so they hold warm light late into the afternoon. The pavement is narrow and cars pass, so it suits a few frames, not a whole session.
• Miradouro da Vitória. A small terrace in a residential quarter above the Ribeira, looking over the rooftops to the cathedral and across to the port lodges in Gaia. Quieter than the famous viewpoints and best in the last hour of light.
• Serra do Pilar and Jardim do Morro. On the Gaia side of the bridge, the view of the whole city. It is Porto's sunset spot, so expect company.
• Foz do Douro at sunset. Where the river meets the ocean: the palm-lined Passeio Alegre, the breakwater and the Felgueiras lighthouse, which winter swells cover in spray. The sun goes down over the sea.
