The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — choose complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid colors and muted tones (navy, cream, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Portugal's warm-toned architecture and lush green landscapes. Avoid busy patterns, large logos, or neon colors that can distract from you as a couple. Comfortable shoes are essential, especially in Lisbon and Porto where cobblestone streets and hillside viewpoints are common. Bring a second outfit if you'd like variety — many couples change halfway through longer sessions. Golden hour — the hour after sunrise or before sunset — provides the most flattering, warm, romantic light and is universally recommended by professional photographers. In Portugal, sunset times range from around 5:30pm in winter to 9:00pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions in Lisbon and Porto are especially popular because the westward-facing viewpoints catch the light over the river and rooftops beautifully. Sunrise shoots are quieter and give you famous landmarks nearly to yourselves, which is ideal for Sintra or heavily touristed areas. Photoshoots at Costa da Caparica start from €310, and most one- to two-hour packages fall between €310 and €450 depending on the length of the session, the number of edited photos and how much of the coast you cover. Photographers based in Lisbon reach these beaches in about half an hour, so travel rarely adds much. Edited galleries usually arrive within about a week.

The classic spots are the wooden walkways above the town beach, the wide sand and dunes of Praia de São João da Caparica to the north, the wild dunes of Fonte da Telha at the southern end, the fossil cliffs of the protected Arriba Fóssil landscape, and the quieter stretches around Praia da Sereia and Praia do Castelo, where the sand empties out.

The whole coast faces west, so sunset over the Atlantic is the reason to be here and the light lingers over flat, open sand. Summer afternoons bring the nortada, a steady north wind that throws sand and hair around, so mornings are calmer. July and August are crowded near the town; walk ten minutes south and it empties out.
